Compacting a database recovers unused space so the database can operate most efficiently.

Answer:

1. Open the database in Lotus Notes.

2. Choose File - Database - Properties.


3. Click the Info tab (second from the left - with the "i" on the tab)

4. Click % used

5. If the percentage of a database in use drops below 90% (it contains more than 10% unused space), click Compact to compact the database.

It's recommended that you compact databases monthly to recover local disk space for frequently used databases.

Use the following method to monitor database size and used space in a database.

1. Open the database and choose File - Database - Properties.

2. Click the Info tab (i) to see the size of the database.

3. Click % Used to display the percentage of database space in use.
